Florida Auto Insurance Rates Vary Widely By Zip Code

BREVARD COUNTY, Florida -- Florida auto insurance rates vary widely by zip code, even in communities immediately next to each other, according to an average of six large carriers' auto insurance rate data (Allstate, Farmers, GEICO, Nationwide, Progressive and State Farm) calculated by carinsurance.com

In Brevard County, rates are lower on the barrier islands than on the mainland.  Palm Bay has the highest rate at $1,297 in the 32907 zip code, followed by the 32901 Melbourne zip code at $1,293.  But just a few miles further north, the 32940 Viera zip code was only $1,213.  The north Cocoa and Titusville communities had the lowest rate on the mainland at $1,209.

Melbourne Beach has the lowest rate in the county at $1,205. All of the other barrier island communities, including Merritt Island, range only up to $1,217.

Statewide, the highest average auto insurance rates by zip code are located in the Miami area, ranging from $2,526 to $2,632. The zip codes with the lowest rates in the Sunshine State are located in the Gainesville area at around $1,043.

The averages are based on insurance for a single 40-year-old male driver of a 2012 Honda Accord with a clean record and good credit who commutes 12 miles to work each day, with policy limits of 100/300/50 ($100,000 for injury liability for one person, $300,000 for all injuries and $50,000 for property damage in an accident) and a $500 deductible on collision and comprehensive coverage.
