Florida Minimum Wage To Increase In 2014

Florida's minimum wage is set to increase to $7.93 per hour on January 1, 2014.  In 2004, Florida voters approved a constitutional amendment which created Florida's minimum wage.  The minimum wage applies to all employees in the state who are covered by the federal minimum wage.

Florida law requires the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity to calculate a minimum wage rate each year.   The annual calculation is based on the percentage increase in the federal Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers in the South Region for the 12-month period prior to September 1, 2013.

Employers must pay their employees the hourly state minimum wage for all hours worked in Florida.  The definitions of employer, employee, and wage for state purposes are the same as those established under the federal Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).  Employers of tipped employees, who meet eligibility requirements for the tip credit under the FLSA, may count tips actually received as wages under the Florida minimum wage.  However, the employer must pay tipped employees a direct wage.

The direct wage for tipped employees is calculated as equal to the minimum wage ($7.93) minus the 2003 tip credit ($3.02), or a direct hourly wage of $4.91 as of January 1, 2014.

That is way too low. The minimum wage should be at least $9.00 an hr. People making minimum wage now are in poverty and on food stamps so that they can eat. Wake up Florida and treat your people
with a decent minimum wage and benefits. Come back unions.

Wow. That's pretty generous. If someone is such a loser that they only qualify for a minimum wage job, then all they have to do is work 2 slacker jobs at 35 hours each for 70 hours a week.

That is over $2,400 a month. More than enough to live on and save.

You can complain about wages being to low when you quite complaining about the cost of things you buy, because it is all related. So if wages go up the cost of everything goes up the little man does not gain anything but just pays more taxes.

Wrong on the cost of living going up. Look how the companies top employees live. Then the wages need to change to 1 set wage for all Americans. Fast food work and the President of a company get paid the same, Fair pay for all workers.

Min wage goes up but if you get govt assistance it will push you out of that help. Then you are worse off.

Wake up....every time minimum wages go up, cost go up. Raising wages does only one thing....it brings more people down from the middle class. Minimum wage jobs were never meant to be jobs to raise a family with. They were for teens and supplement jobs.

And in the State of Florida, it's only part time jobs at minimum wage. I have 25 years experience as a cashier and can only get part time and minimum wage. Companies are not willing to pay for experience.

Then are you going to volunteer for the ditch digging jobs? Because I'll feel just fine sitting behind a desk somewhere making the same wage you are as you sweat your ass off.

Despite what ppl may say minimum wage needs to go up... i see ppl with experience and arent being hired to the jobs that fit their qualifictions.. sad to say but employers feel like experience means higher pay while they can pay someone cheaper and teach them thr job... the cost of living is crazy... in college you couldnt get a place of your own with the wages they have.. you had to have a roommate or two jobs... raise the min wages, hell employers are raising salaries for the big shots.. fair is fair and why look down and insult a person who actually wants to work with some crappy under $9 wage... smh come on ppl open your eyes

If you take a job that requires a low or no skill sets. then don't complain about minimum wage. go to school, learn a trade, or find another job. fast food restaurants will not make you rich.

finding a better paying job is not always easy. Many of us who went to school earned a degree but cannot find a job. If you have a great paying job be thankful.

This is quite normal amount of money but of course people want more. They can’t work just to eat something, to wear some closes and to have some roof over their heads. People should have some resources to have a good rest, to bring pleasure; this is the only way to happiness. CashAdvanceLoanStore will help you if you urgently need money.
