Magazine Names EDC President A ‘Difference Maker’

EDC CEO Lynda Weatherman
MELBOURNE, Florida -- Southern Business Development magazine, a national economic development publication, has named Lynda Weatherman, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Economic Development Commission of Florida's Space Coast, to its annual "People Who Made a Difference" in the South Top Ten List.

This comprehensive list is comprised of executives, economic developers and elected officials who have made a difference in the South’s economy by creating a climate conducive to job creation, implementing new policies and bringing new opportunities to the regions in which they live and work.

Weatherman was recognized for the organization’s response to challenges surrounding the Shuttle transition and the ensuing turnaround to diversify into a hub for technological innovation. As the magazine noted, “what occurred, however, was simply the end of an era and the beginning of another.”

Companies that the magazine said the EDC helped bring to Brevard or expand here, including Embraer and Northup Grumman, part of the nearly 5,000 jobs announced since the retirement of the Shuttle program, were also noted as part of the Space Coast success story.

The article can be viewed in its entirety in Southern Business Development magazine’s winter 2014 issue.
